Frequently Asked Questions

Commonly Asked Questions to Help You Get Started

What is a virtual private server (VPS)?

VPS stands for Virtual Private Server, whereby physical dedicated servers are partitioned into multiple virtualised servers. Each virtualised server mimics a dedicated server, running its own copy of an Operating System. With VPS hosting, you will have root access to your VPS and be able to install almost any software that runs on your preferred OS.

Why should I choose VPS hosting?

Virtual Private Server works well for those who run resource-intensive websites. Each VPS has dedicated resources so it performs exactly like an independent physical machine, offering users security, flexibility and independence from neighbours. Plus, you get a dedicated IP address! Essentially, you get all the features of a dedicated server, but at a lower price point.

What is unmanaged VPS?

VantageVPS provides unmanaged VPS hosting, designed for experienced developers seeking full control over their server. With root access to your VPS, you will have autonomy in installing your preferred Operating System (OS) and applications to suit your operating specifications. Our support team will be here to help you with all network and hardware related issues.

How long will it take to set up a VPS?

Get instant setup when you host with VantageVPS! Our VPS are automatically provisioned once the invoice has been paid for. For customised orders, please allow up to 72 hours for the VPS to be provisioned.

Do you provide data backup service?

At this time, VantageVPS does not offer backup services. It is the sole responsibility of the client to regularly maintain and back-up copies of data outside of VantageVPS’s network. VantageVPS will not be held responsible for any data loss or corruption, including but not limited to that resulting from:

  1. our authorised actions
  2. client’s actions during the course of using our service
  3. hardware failures
  4. any software or other technological failures
  5. account suspension, termination or cancellation.
If my VPS is offline due to hardware or network issues, will there be any form of compensation?

VantageVPS will bring the server back online as fast as possible. However, all data, data backups and restoration is the sole responsibility of the client. We cannot be responsible for any data or monentary loss occuring due to the VPS being offline. Clients are strongly encouraged to take proper backups periodically.

What content is allowed on VantageVPS's servers?

Can I move my VPS from one VantageVPS data center to another?

How long is the contract for a VPS?

VantageVPS offers the following options of billing cycles – monthly, quarterly and half-yearly. Before the end of the billing cycle, the VPS is renewed automatically and an invoice is generated and sent to you seven (7) days before the due date.

How do I cancel a service?

All services need to be cancelled at least ten (10) days before the next billing due date. Otherwise, the VPS is automatically renewed and the charges for the next month’s service will be due. You will also get the remaining time left on the service. To cancel a service, simply log into your client portal and click on ‘Request Cancellation’.

What happens if there is a lapse in payment?

Accounts that have invoices which are more than seven (7) days overdue will be suspended. To reactivate a suspended account, all overdue invoices will need to be paid. Accounts that have invoices more than two (2) weeks overdue are considered abandoned and will be terminated. In such instances, existing data will be wiped out and the VPS will be returned to available stock for new client orders. No data is backed-up and thus, no data can be retrieved.

How can I subscribe to a recurring payment for my hosting package?

To enable a recurring payment via Paypal, please submit a request by raising a ticket or writing to us at billing@vantagevps.com.

While it is not possible to set up a recurring payment with cryptocurrencies, it is possible to add Account Credits to your account.

How do I get Account Credits?

The available credit in your account can be viewed from the ‘Account Credit Balance’ tab after logging into the client portal.

What should I do if I notice an error on my invoice?

If you discover an error on your invoice, please notify us as soon as possible by submitting a ticket or sending us an email at billing@vantagevps.com. We will honour invoice errors as long as we are notified of them within a period of thirty (30) days. If more than thirty (30) days have elapsed, we may have to decline the refund request.

Should you have any questions regarding a charge from VantageVPS, please submit a ticket or email us at billing@vantagevps.com. Any chargebacks received will incur an investigation fee of Fifty (50) USD on the associated billing account and all services will be immediately suspended pending investigation. VantageVPS may reject the future use of payment methods from an account for which a chargeback has been previously issued. Upon receipt of a chargeback or payment reversal, the account related to the payment may be suspended or terminated.

How is bandwidth usage calculated?

Bandwidth usage is based on both inbound and outbound traffic. All clients are required to monitor their own bandwidth usage. The tracking counter available under your ‘Server Information’ in your product details indicates the amount of bandwidth consumed. This reading is based on the calendar month and will be reset on the first of each month, regardless of the billing cycle.

What should I do if I need more bandwidth?

Each VPS plan includes a set amount of free bandwidth. Once you exceed the allotted bandwidth on the service, the VPS may be suspended. You may choose to purchase additional bandwidth so that you may continue using the service. Simply log into your client portal, go to the ‘Services’ tab and click on ‘View Additional Addons’.
